Bucharest’s Karpov not Kasparov describe themselves as “a game of action and reaction between drums and synthesizers”. The game is, as the duo’s name belies, chess; a subject which regularly informs their music. Even so; their sonic agenda isn’t as artful or as serious as you’d imagine. Rather, bubbling synths and playful lyrics bounce against an electronic beat that walks a fine line between club and cabaret. An intriguing and giving live act, this is their first time in WORM.
Since 1969, EUROPALIA has been organizing art biennales around
changing host countries. After editions dedicated to, among others,
Mexico, Japan and Indonesia, it is now Romania’s turn. For four months,
an exciting programme presents hundreds of exhibitions, performances,
concerts, workshops, lectures, film screenings and literary events
throughout Belgium and other European countries. EUROPALIA focuses on
renowned artists, up-and-coming talent, heritage and the contemporary
art scene, with particular attention to generation Y and Z, new
creations and exchanges between artists from the host country and
Europe.
